We had 11 hikers come out to hike Grizzly Peak and Lost Falls. As we started out on the trail, there were low clouds and the air was cool. It was in the upper 50s.
We saw many yellow violets, trillium and some chocolate checkered lilies. The wild ginger was not yet in the bloom stage.
When we reached the junction, we decided to go counter clockwise hoping we would get clear views later in the hike. The low clouds lifted and we had a decent view. We made our way around and stopped for a snack. We could see that Emigrant Lake was higher than we had seen in years. The top of Mount Shasta stayed hidden in the clouds. We continued around and back to the cars.
We said goodbye to Marilyn as she was headed home to celebrate her anniversary. Eva and Ron were hesitant to go to the falls because a friend had told them it was a long drive, the road was bad, and the falls were not worth it. We convinced them to join us and they were pleased they did.
We made it to the trailhead and the temperature had risen to 70°. We enjoyed the sound of Lost Creek and had a few water crossings. There were some downed trees to maneuver through, but it was easily managed.
There was an abundance of wildflowers in the area above the canyon where the falls are. We had lunch and kicked back in the sunshine. We enjoyed some Shaffen Berger 70% dark chocolate with almonds, toffee and sea salt that was provided by Patricia. This bar is a winner!
We returned to our cars and were back in Ashland in the mid afternoon.
